Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) has reached a major milestone in the advancement of medical imaging for southeastern Ontario, officially completing construction of the region’s first positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) suite. A ceremony held on March 26, 2025, celebrated the achievement bringing this world-class diagnostic capability to patients closer to home.

Barb Brown settles into her chair at the Belleville Dialysis Clinic, adjusting the chair with the push of a button. “These new chairs are just so much more comfortable,” the 72-year-old says. “You just kind of melt into them.”

For Barb and the other 90 patients who rely on this clinic three times a week, four hours at a time, comfort is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. The new chairs, funded by generous donors, have made an incredible difference in their experience.

University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (UHKF) is discontinuing its 50/50 lottery, with the final draw set for March 2025. 

Since its inception in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the lottery has given participants the chance to win substantial prizes. However, UHKF leadership has decided that it is time to refocus resources on other high-impact fundraising initiatives. 

"The 50/50 lottery was a creative and effective way to generate support during a time when in-person fundraising wasn’t an option," said UHKF President and CEO Tom Zsolnay.

Providence Care’s AB Smith Homestead House, located at 152 Phillips Street, fulfills a long-held community dream to expand end-of-life palliative care services in the region.

Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) is now only the second hospital in Ontario to have a portable magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine for clinical use in its Intensive Care Unit (ICU), thanks to the generosity of donor Stephen Sorensen who made a $500,000 donation through the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation.

Two 2024 Elaine and Michael Davies Award for Innovation winners have each received $25,000 in funding for innovative ideas that lead to improved patient outcomes and more efficient systems of care.
