Bay of Quinte Mutual Insurance is marking its milestone 150th anniversary by making an extraordinary commitment to the health and wellbeing of the communities it serves by giving $150,000 through University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (UHKF).
George Taylor, Bay of Quinte Mutual board chair, says the big donation is appropriate for a big anniversary.
“We wanted to choose something that served all of the region that we serve,” says Taylor about the company with headquarters in Picton. “We all know someone who has a family member, a co-worker, a mentor, a professional person, somebody that has had to make the trip to Kingston for treatment of some sort, and we thought this was one of the best places we could use the money for everyone involved.”
The announcement, made during Bay of Quinte Mutual Insurance's 150th anniversary celebration in Picton, highlighted the company’s deep connection to the communities it supports, including Kingston, Belleville, Brockville, Bancroft, Perth, and Smiths Falls.
UHKF is the charitable foundation supporting Kingston Health Sciences Centre and Providence Care. The organizations are a regional health-care hub and serve more than 600,000 people across southeastern Ontario.
UHKF Past Board Chair Dr. John Leverette thanks Bay of Quinte Mutual for its significant contribution to the health of the region which will have a lasting impact. He says gifts from organizations like Bay of Quinte Mutual Insurance are vital to help maintain KHSC’s and Providence Care’s high standards of medical excellence and patient care.
“Advancements in medical innovation have allowed patients to live longer with a better quality of life, but the cost to the system has never been greater,” says Dr. Leverette. “The province continues to cover the cost of hospital operations, but hospitals can’t use their government operating grants for equipment or new buildings, and with rising costs, hospitals increasingly depend on local philanthropy to provide modern care.”
This generous donation is more than a celebration of Bay of Quinte Mutual’s history—it’s an investment in the future health of southeastern Ontario, ensuring that advanced, compassionate care remains within reach for all.
“This donation will significantly bolster our efforts to save lives, improve health outcomes and support the entire southeastern Ontario community,” says Dr. Leverette.
The $150,000 gift will go into a general fund to support KHSC’s and Providence Care’s areas of greatest priority. It allows health-care professionals to address their most current needs and maximize the positive impact on patients.
