From Impact to Altitude: Climbing Kilimanjaro for TBI Awareness

This August, Megan Wheatley is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro - not just for the adventure, but for something far more personal.

In 2013, Megan Wheatley sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) from a car accident, and it flipped her whole world upside down. Recovery wasn’t just about healing physically, it meant relearning how to function in the world again. Her sense of self shifted; the things she once took for granted - language, memory, focus, emotional stability - suddenly became daily battles.

Even now, over a decade later, Megan lives with lingering effects that most people wouldn’t notice on the surface. The thing about brain injuries is that they’re often invisible, but they’re deeply real. Fatigue, sensory overwhelm, trouble finding words - it’s all still there, just a little quieter than before.

This climb represents more than reaching a summit. It’s about honouring the climb she's already been on, and using that momentum to give back.

Megan is raising funds for Community Brain Injury Services (CBIS) at Providence Care, who provide life-changing support to people living with acquired brain injuries. They offer rehab, housing, and community programs that help people regain independence and rebuild their lives.

Fundraising Goal: $5000

If you’re able to support this cause, thank you - every donation makes a difference. If you just want to follow along as Megan trains and take on this challenge, she's grateful for that too. Her hope is that by sharing this journey, she can raise awareness, spark conversation, and give back in a way that feels near and dear to her heart.
