Unlock the Future of Science & Health with Dr. Teresa Purzner!
Join University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (UHKF) for an inspiring evening with one of Canada’s most celebrated innovators in science and business, Dr. Teresa Purzner. On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm, Dr. Purzner will share her extraordinary journey that spans the worlds of brain science, neurosurgery, and entrepreneurship in her captivating talk as the latest installment in UHKF's A Talks with Docs Evening at The Spire series.
From Brain Scans to Baby Food: Lessons from a Life in Science and Business
Dr. Teresa Purzner’s career is defined by groundbreaking work in paediatric brain cancer research, neurosurgery, and the entrepreneurial world. Her interdisciplinary approach to science has led to the identification of new therapeutic targets for brain cancers in children, revolutionizing the way we think about treatment. As a trusted neurosurgeon at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), a clinician-scientist at the KHSC Research Institute and an assistant professor at the Queen’s University School of Medicine, Dr. Purzner is making a direct impact on Canadian healthcare.
Dr. Purzner’s path to success is nothing short of remarkable: as a PhD student at Stanford University, she discovered a groundbreaking drug target to treat medulloblastoma, a common paediatric brain tumour. This discovery led to international recognition and the launch of a collaborative clinical trial, opening the door to new treatments for both brain and skin cancers.
But Dr. Purzner's story doesn’t stop there. In 2017, she co-founded Cerebelly, a trailblazing brand of organic, brain-boosting baby food that promotes optimal early brain development. This innovative product is now available in over 7,000 stores across the United States and is the first shelf-safe baby food to win the prestigious Project Purity Award.
This event promises to be an eye-opening conversation about the intersection of science, healthcare, and entrepreneurship, highlighting Dr. Purzner's unique ability to bridge the gap between laboratory research and real-world applications.
