Help Revolutionize How Alzheimer’s Is Diagnosed!

This year, the YGK Healthcare Champions are supporting Alzheimer’s research and care! With your support, Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) can revolutionize how Alzheimer’s is diagnosed, replacing fear and uncertainty with clarity, compassion and hope.

At KHSC it’s time to break down the barriers that stand between patients and timely, compassionate care. Dr. Durjoy Lahiri and Dr. Yun Huang are leading an initiative that could change everything: introducing a simple blood test—the first of its kind in Canada—that can accurately detect Alzheimer’s disease. This test is already approved in all other G7 Countries and offers patients and their families something priceless: clarity, without the trauma of invasive procedures. It will position KHSC in dementia care and research, opening doors to new treatments and hope for patients with Alzheimer’s, while also providing them and their families the most precious gift of all: more time to remember, connect and live fullyVisit the project About page to learn more.

  • 31 incredible community sponsors (this year's sponsorship opportunities start as low as $300)
  • 68 amazing silent auction items donated by various local businesses, artists, and national companies

What is this year's tournament fundraising for?

Alzheimer’s Research & Care Initiative

Every three seconds, somewhere in the world, another person is diagnosed with dementia, and Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, contributing to 60–70% of cases.

Behind each diagnosis is a story of confusion, fear and heartbreak. Families watch as the people they love slip away, losing memories that once defined them.

For many patients, like Mr. K, a 57-year-old teacher and father, the search for answers becomes a journey filled with anxiety and pain. His wife watched helplessly as he forgot familiar names and struggled to perform the simplest daily tasks. The test that finally confirmed his Alzheimer’s disease required an invasive spinal tap, a painful and stressful procedure few can bear.

But what if finding answers didn’t have to hurt?

At Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), it’s time to break down the barriers that stand between patients and timely, compassionate care.

This breakthrough could help patients receive diagnosis and treatment earlier, giving them precious time to plan, to connect and to hold on to the moments that matter most. It will position KHSC in dementia care and research, opening doors to new treatments and hope for patients with Alzheimer’s.

The need has never been greater.

  • In 2020, over 55 million people worldwide were living with dementia.
  • By 2030 that number is expected to reach 78 million and by 2050 139 million, doubling every 20 years.
  • Each year, there are over 10 million new cases worldwide.

These numbers represent more than statistics—they are families, stories and memories at risk.

We can change the story—but we can’t do it alone.

Your support can make this possible, helping us bring this life-changing test to our community and ensuring that families in Kingston and beyond never have to face the uncertainty and fear that come with delayed diagnosis. Together, we can turn heartbreak into hope.

Because every memory matters.
