The $65-million Extraordinary People, Innovative Health Care campaign is designed to help pave the way for the next major investment in redevelopment within Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) and Providence Care.
KHSC Kingston General Hospital site
At the Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) Kingston General Hospital site, we are providing 21st century health care in 19th century facilities. We must replace four aged buildings with a new patient tower that will be home to:
- Emergency Department (ED)
- Clinical Laboratories
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Maternal and Child Health
- Surgical Suites (Operating Rooms)
KHSC Hotel Dieu Hospital site
At the KHSC Hotel Dieu site, the surgical centre will be revamped and have two additional operating rooms. This will increase the capacity at that site for day and short-stay procedures, thereby increasing KGH’s capacity for more complex and higher-risk surgeries.
We will also reconfigure Hotel Dieu’s patient care spaces in urgent care, cardiology, ophthalmology, endoscopy, diagnostic imaging, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), and our Children’s Outpatient Centre, with the goal of creating a better care environment and experience for patients.
At Providence Care, we will be part of an exciting new development planned to bring together long-term care, a residential hospice, community health services as well as housing, employment supports and retail space.
We will relocate our long-term care facility, Providence Manor, to the new Providence Village, being developed on the parklike, historical site owned by the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul. The Village will be a community within a community, offering health services, supportive housing, recreation, and social services to Village residents, but linked to and benefiting the broader community.
