University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (UHKF) places a high value on our relationship with you, our donors. Without your support we would not be able to achieve our mission to support excellence in patient care, teaching and research at Kingston’s hospitals by raising funds through partnership and philanthropy.
We thank you for your commitment to us.
We believe that transparency and accountability are essential to our success. With this in mind, we became one of the first 100 non-profit organizations and charities in Canada to earn accreditation through Imagine Canada’s Standards Program.
Imagine Canada is the national umbrella organization for Canada’s charitable sector. The Standards Program is designed to demonstrate compliance in five key areas: board governance, financial accountability and transparency, fundraising, staff management and volunteer involvement. To achieve accreditation, policies and procedures are evaluated by a peer group to ensure compliance with 73 industry standards. This is important because you, our supporters, are entitled to transparency and the greatest impact possible for your investment in us.

Do the hospitals still have their own foundations?
On July 1, 2014, the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, Kingston General Hospital Foundation, Providence Care Foundation and the Jeanne Mance Foundation at Hotel Dieu Hospital were amalgamated into one corporation – the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation. Previously, UHKF was responsible for fundraising, while each of the hospital foundations continued to look after their own investments, granting and distribution of funds within their hospitals. Based on feedback from the Kingston community, the four hospital foundations amalgamated into a single corporation in order to more effectively raise funds for Kingston’s hospitals. The money raised by our Foundation is distributed to the hospitals using an agreed upon sharing formula.
Why have a single fundraising organization?
The hospitals’ foundations decided to come together and create a joint fundraising program to bring the most community financial support into our local health care system in the most efficient way. The staff of UHKF is made up of fundraising professionals, most of whom worked for the individual hospital foundations before UHKF was established. In the time since our Foundations officially began working together, our combined donation revenues have increased substantially.
