The Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign is back! For one week, from September 14-20, Kingston restaurant owners will donate the full $1 from every freshly baked chocolate chunk Smile Cookie purchased to support Kingston Health Sciences Centre’s (KHSC) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Thanks to the generosity of participating locations in the Kingston area, the commitment of staff and nearly two decades of enthusiastic community support, Tim Hortons has donated more than $800,000 to purchase life-saving equipment for KHSC, much of it benefitting the NICU at the Kingston General Hospital site. In 2019, the Smile Cookie campaign raised a record-breaking $132,074 for KHSC’s NICU.

“We meet families, and their fragile newborns, in the NICU every day and so many of them require life-saving, specialized care that would be impossible for the hospital to offer without state-of-the-art technology,” says Dr. Gillian MacLean, Neonatologist, KHSC. “When you buy a Smile Cookie, know that it is much more than a donation.  It is an investment in quality of life and in our community.  It is a gift of hope to our tiniest patients and the parents who love them and are waiting to take them home.”

“Smile Cookie campaign is a wonderful example of our community coming together to help support some of its most fragile members,” says Wayne Owens, Board Chair, University Hospitals Kingston Foundation. “We are so pleased that once again this year the proceeds will be directed to the NICU to support our tiniest patients.”
